Artist Spotlight - Rebecaa Molayem

There is a new gallery in Los Angeles where the art reflects the influence of the painter, Amedeo Modigliani. The walls of the Rebecca Molayem Gallery on Robertson Blvd. are colorfully lined with the whimsical art of - you guessed it - Rebecca Molayem.
Rebecca's voluptuous Botero-like characters chat and party through her expressionist brushstrokes. Don't look for any anorezic stick-types or Vargas pinsups here. These are real people inspired by her keen observations of human behavior and body language. Her stylized figurative paintings provoke a smile that invites us into her world of characters frolicking on the beach, dancing the night away and celebrating life.
Rebecca's passion for art began as a graphic artist and illustrator before devoting all of her time to painting and sculpting. After commenting to her that all the people in her paintings and scultpures look related, she coyly smiled and revealed that she has a large family and most of her inspiration and sources for ideas come from her relatives and friends enjoying everyday life - - from traveling to get-togethers - to fallin in love. Her choices of colors reflect their moods - --strong, saturated, bright and complementary. She paints and sculpts every chance she gets! Rebecca has a unique relationship with her art.

As always, if you love costumes and television, you will probably enjoy this show. The exhibit runs until September 6th so you still have plenty of time.
